James Waugh
I was employee number one at an AI startup from 2018 to 2022, where I built and sold production planning software to small and mid-size manufacturers: large job shops, cement plants, and automotive Tier 2s. I worked on-site in many facilities doing data integration and learning process constraints from the guys on the floor.
I write about it at Medians of Production, a Substack newsletter about manufacturing software, sales, and some historical perspectives.
After that, I worked in to commercial banking: I did a brief stint at a fintech selling ledgering software to banks, and then from 2023-2026 I was a principal engineer at a large commercial bank, helping them modernize their IT stack.
I'm now building Algedon, and I'm betting on making more capital legible to shops who are eager to use it. Right now I'm doing customer development with US precision machining shops, talking to shop owners and the people who work with them.
